Super easy sweet bread. This no kneading, just mix it up and bake it bread. Makes a wonderful dessert or even quick breakfast.
Makes 2 loaves
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups butter milk
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
Cinnamon sugar mixture:
2/3 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Grease two 9x5 loaf pans. Set aside until needed.
Cream together butter, 2 cups sugar, and eggs. Add milk, flour, and baking soda. Mix well.
Put 1/4 of batter in each greased loaf pan.
Mix in separate bow the 2/3 cup sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle 3/4 of the cinnamon mixture on top of the batter in each pan. Add remaining batter to pans; sprinkle the remaining cinnamon topping. Swirl with a knife. Bake at 350 degrees in a preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until toothpick tester comes clean.
Cool in pan for 20 minutes before removing from pan.
Excellent if eaten warm out of the oven but great toasted with a little butter or cinnamon butter.
Enjoy!!

Quick question, I really want to make this bread in the morning but am out of buttermilk, is there a way to make buttermilk or do I need to wait until I have some?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lorrie
Sure there is, two cups of milk and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Let sit atleast 10 minutes, then you can use just as you would buttermilk.
DeleteWonderful!! Thank you so much, can't wait to try this one!!!
DeleteI LOVE this site!! I have already made and canned many things I found here and you have always been very helpful. I have a question about canning cauliflower,...... is it possible without pickling it? I cannot seen to find directions to just can it so I'm not sure. Any thoughts? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope that I can continue to help you and many others on our canning and cooking journeys.
DeleteTo tackle the "cauliflower" question. The reason why you don't find any recipes for it is because it breaks down to much. I however did find several recipes for cauliflower soups that you can indeed can but you have to leave out all the thickening agents. It would probably look gawd awful in the jars but if done right could taste pretty darn good after adding the thickening agents at the of heating it up. I googled "canning cauliflower".
Here is one if your intersted http://www.ehow.com/how_8283207_can-cauliflower-soup.html
Just holler if ya need any more help with it.

Thanks again! By the way, I just canned up a batch of the bean soup( I added 1/8 teaspoon of ham flavored powdered bullion) and it is fabulous!!!!! Next, the Amish cinnamon bread!!
DeleteI can't hardly keep the bean soup on the shelf here. My daughter would eat a quart a day if I would let her. You will love the bread everyone I shared it wanted the recipe.
DeleteWOW, just made the Amish cinnamon bread, all I can say is YUUUMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!
ReplyDelete;0) Glad you liked!!
DeleteCan you add Apple's
DeleteYes you sure can.
DeleteJust wondering if you think using Turbinado sugar in the swirl would work. I was thinking it might give it a little cruchy bite. Can't wait to try this either way!
ReplyDeleteI don't see why not. I think its a great idea! Please let me know how it turns out.
DeleteWould this bread keep for a few days wrapped in Saran Wrap in the fridge?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry this is late. I have no doubt that wrapping it up will keep it just fine in the fridge. You can also do the same and freeze. Yummy treat later this fall with zero work.
DeleteI'm making it right now. I'm excited because my girls love this bread and buying it gets kind of expensive when you eat it every morning with everything. Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI missed the bean soup recipe. Is there a place that I can search and get it or will you have to re-post it? From a post of one lady, it must be a great soup and we really like it in the winter time or anytime really.
ReplyDeleteThank you in advance so much for your help.

Deleteis salt not needed?
ReplyDeleteNo, salt is not needed.
DeleteI only have salted butter, do I have to run down to the store?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I was not home to answer your questions. I hope you didn't run to the store. I used margarine the last time I made this and it turned out just fine. Hope yours turned out well too.
DeleteHey I seen someone ask earlier if you could use reg.milk instead of butter milk..im on my second batch of bread in a week using reg.milk and it comes out great.the family loves it:)
ReplyDeleteI want to try the Amish Cinammon Bread. Can you use self-rising flour and leave out the soda, or do I need to get plain flour?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. I would think so since you can use it interchangeably in other recipes. If you do use it please let us know.
DeleteMade this tonight & it was really yummy, but i think this recipe would benefit from 1/2 t salt...thanks for the yummy recipe, my famiy gobbled it up! :)
